Annual Profections - How to View them at a Glance
In order to see annual profections at a glance, I've created what I call a Profection Wheel (see the wheel above). This comes in very handy when you don't have the proper software to calculate the profections properly and want to know where your profected ascendant is located for any specific year.
In order to use the Profection Wheel at the top of this page, follow these intructions:
In the center of the wheel you will notice a light blue area where the SIGN glyphs are located. Imagine they can rotate around the wheel freely. Rotate your own ascendant sign to the zero point in the ascendant of the profection wheel. For instance, if your own ascendant is Pisces, the wheel above already reflects the way the chart should look as Pisces lines up to the zero point of the ascendant. It's quite simple to use, so experiment and have fun with it.
Although this technique gives you a simple way of looking at profections, if you decide to use transit dates along with the Profection Circle, always double check manually as well, because the more time that elapses from the birthdate in any year to the transit date later on in that year, could possibly push the profected ascendant or planet into the next sign.
For example, a female just turned 21 years old on Feb 11, 2006. Her natal ascendant is 27 Taurus 57. As you can see, it falls very close to the end degrees of this sign. If we just look at the Profection Wheel alone, we would see that by lining up the inner wheel to the Taurus ascendant, her profected ascendant becomes Aquarius, on the 10th cusp of her chart for the exact date of her birthday and about 1 month afterwards, before it enters into the next sign.
For instance, let's profect her ascendant to the transit date of April 15, 2006. The difference from her last birthday to this transit date now becomes 2 months and 4 days. Remember that transit months and days always translate into degrees and minutes. The more time goes by, the more degrees and minutes get tacked onto the profected degrees of the ascendant for that year. This may or may not be enough to push the profected ascendant into the next sign.
We do the following calculations:
1. Divide her age, 21 by 12 = 1.75
2. Take the remainder .75 and multiply it by 12 to equal 9 signs
3. Therefore:
21 years old = 9 signs = AQUARIUS (from her natal Taurus Ascendant starting point)
Natal Asc = 27 degrees 57 minutes
+ 2 months = 5 degrees 0 minutes
+ 4 days = 0 degrees 20 minutes
Subtotal = 32 degrees 77 minutes
-60 minutes
33 degrees 17 minutes
-30 degrees 00 minutes
TOTAL = 3 degrees 17 minutes into the next sign of Pisces
Once you see the sub total going over 30 degrees, you know you're already into the next sign past the profected sign of Aquarius for the transit date of April 15th, 2006. If we had wanted the profection sign on Feb 11, 2006, the anniversary of her birthday, then she would've still been at her profected ascendant of 27 AQU 57, since no time had elapsed at that point. When you know the ascendant degree and aren't interested in transiting anything forward for that year, the circle works perfectly.
So, if you have an Aries ascendant, then you're good to go. All you need to do is look up whatever age you are and see where it falls in the circle chart. For instance, if you've just turned 21 years old and have an Aries ascendant, your Annual Profected Ascendant will fall in the 10th house of profession for that year in Capricorn. If you're 66 years old, your Annual Profected ascendant will go to the 7th house of Libra and your focus might be dealing with close personal relationships during that year of your life for instance.
But what happens when your ascendant is anything other than Aries? Then what do you do? As an example of someone turning 57 on March 12, 2006, the natal ascendant is AQUARIUS. Rotate the center wheel so that the Aquarius sign matches up to the 0 starting point on the ascendant line. Then look up age 57 and note that it lies at the 10th house cusp in Scorpio. Therefore the focus for this year will be on 10th house issues.
