Using the Grimes' USA Chart ( Part 2)
In the previous issue, I closed with the question of, if the Grimes' USA Chart can be used as a world chart, how can we determine when a given transit or planetary period speaks of an event directly befalling the United States and when will it instead affect another country? I had demonstrated how afflictions within Capricorn, using the Grimes' USA Chart, would manifest as problematic to the state of Israel, which has a Capricorn rising chart.
Much of this dilemma can be solved if we can figure out one thing, which has long eluded astrologers: how do we know if an aspect is indicating the delivery or reception of energy? Let me explain. Suppose Rahu is in the 5th house of a given natal chart, how do you predict if there will be issues of manipulation and control upon the children or from the children? Instead, astrologers tend to resort to saying something ambiguous, such as, "there will be issues of deceit and manipulation involving children." This is reasonably accurate, but not very specific. It leaves the client without a clue as to whether someone will try to fool one of their children and lead them astray, or whether one of their children will engage in deceitful behavior themselves and try to fool the parents. As one might surmise, from this example, sometimes the two are inextricably linked.
Such is the case in predicting mundane events as well. Still, I have previously given a rule that I use for interpreting energies and how they will interact. If the energy is malefic, I would state it like this:
A malefic will always try to co-opt the energy of the house in which it is residing or transiting. The same can be said to be true of any planet with which the malefic is conjoined. So, for example, let's suppose a malefic is residing in the 9th house, governing religion, we can say that the person will use religion in a manner that somehow exploits it for personal gain. Take, for example, the chart of Jim Bakker:

Notice the influence of Rahu in the 9th house. We therefore can easily predict that Rahu, in it's deceitful and manipulative way, will try to co-opt religion in some form. This is the part where we see how the energy will be used as an instrument of delivery. But, in what way will the energy by used and by whom/what will it be received?
Rahu's main influence is on Saturn in the 3rd. As lagna lord, we know that Rahu will "attempt" to use religion to increase Jim's own personal reputation, happiness, and success. Because Saturn is afflicted in the 3rd house, we know that Rahu will try to use religion to help Jim achieve these aims within the communications industry.
I have used an individual chart, since, for most people, it is easier to follow astrological principles when discussing individual charts over mundane ones. Still, we need to return to the mundane realm to see how this applies.
Returning to our discussion of Israel, as seen through the Grimes' USA Chart, we can assess the following:
When an affliction occurs within Capricorn, it will affect Israel.
If the affliction occurs within early Capricorn by a planet that is also capable of exerting a trine aspect on the natal Moon, it will afflict Israel and involve the United States in both a personal and economic way, since the Moon is the lagna lord residing in the 11th house of the Grimes' USA Chart.
If the affliction occurs within late Capricorn near natal Venus, it will afflict Israel in a way that affects both the mental peace and domestic assets of the United States, since Venus is the 4th lord of the Grimes' USA Chart.
Let's see if history bears us out on these assertions. First, we will look at the 1991 Gulf War that lasted from January 16th thru February 27th.
Transit (January 16th 1991)
Transit-outer, Natal-inner
Vedic, Equal House, Lahiri
Notice, in the above transit chart, that there is an affliction in early Capricorn between Rahu, Saturn, and the Sun. While this event primarily was one involving the United States and Iraq, Israel was brought into the picture as Iraq launched its SCUD missiles at Israel. This clearly fulfills what I said in bullet #2 above. While it would involve Israel, it would also bring the United States more directly into things - both in terms of its personal involvement and its finances.
As an aside, I want to take this opportunity to point out another principle I have advanced, which is a malefic will avoid at all cost creating havoc in its own house. In this case, Saturn is involved in the above-cited affliction, but it occurs in its own sign of Capricorn. Therefore, any affliction to Israel will be primarily outside its own borders. We can therefore reach another conclusion: if Saturn is the primary planet creating an affliction within Capricorn, it is not wise to predict anything ominous within Israel's borders.
Next, and finally, we will examine a case that highlights bullet #3 above. From the Fall of 2000 through late 2001, transit Uranus conjoins natal Venus in late Capricorn. This is an interesting period indeed. Beginning Fall 2000, suicide bombings began to increase dramatically. These sudden violent events were brought to the United States' home front when, on September 11th 2001, the twin towers in New York were attacked by suicide bombers. This clearly illustrates the principle that an affliction in Capricorn near natal Venus will not only affect Israel, but the United States' domestic peace and assets.
Mundane astrology is both the simplest and most complex study. Simple because we can review history for similar conditions to see what happened. Complex because the number of events and countries that can be involved create a countless set of permutations to consider.
Hopefully, this two part articles have given the mundane astrologer some direction as to how to best approach the casting of predictions relative to world events by using the Grimes' USA Chart.
